"FI-TUEN" is an Australian
design known as an Adams 13 meter.
Fi-Tuen means 'wildfire' in Thai, a term which accurately reflects the yacht's
ability to get the most out of light winds as well as stronger gusts.
This boat was chosen for its speed, lively handling and centerboard-keel
configuration. Speed and lively handling were a high priority because Jock wanted to
"sail out of the way of storms, get there fast and have fun. Why drive a bus when
there is a Ferrari to do the job." To break in his new yacht, Jock cruised
extensively throughout Australia , Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Borneo for two years.
The centerboard is highly desirable because with it
retracted Fi-Tuen only needs one meter to float.
Cruising New Guinea was a treat. Pop in over reefs into shallow sheltered
lagoons while other yachts anchored outside the reef, rolling around, and suffered a wet
½ mile dinghy ride into the beach.
Here in Thailand Fi-Tuen is equally advantageous, as most of the really
interesting parts of spectacular Phang Nga Bay are too shallow for conventional yachts.
When it comes to exploring up rivers and estuaries shallow draft is essential.
Fi-Tuen is the ideal
yacht for exploring the beaches, bays and islands of southern Thailand. This
means it is a functional yacht, not a luxurious one.
It does have galley (kitchen), an enclosed toilet, and all the essentials for
live aboard cruising. There is lots of nice teak, but below-deck space and comfort are
limited.
We can accommodate up to five liveaboard guests. We can alternate nights on the
boat with nights ashore in bungalows, where they are available. As we will be away from
main tourist areas, bungalow prices are not expensive.
If air-conditioned en suite accommodations are a priority, we can recommend some
of our friends with more luxurious (and expensive) yachts.
If lively sailing and lots of exploring are for you,
then you'll enjoy and appreciate the S/Y Fi-tuen.
We carry as additional equipment an inflatable dinghy with outboard engine and
two sit-on-top kayaks.
We do have some snorkeling equipment, but to ensure quality and fit, best to
bring your own. We can direct you to dive supply shops where suitable equipment can
be purchased or hired. |
